9th Avenue Doulas

All the support you need with the birth experience you want.

We are the Rose Doulas: new look, same program.

The 9th Avenue Doula Experience

A simple way to connect with experienced, professional doulas to support you in the birth of your baby. As part of the Rose Doula program, 9th Avenue Doulas support birthing families at Rose Medical Center.

Get to know the doulas at our complimentary monthly virtual webinar.   Our next webinar is January 15th.

What is a Doula?

Doulas provide educational, emotional and physical support for families during pregnancy and birth. Using relaxation techniques such as massage, touch, aromatherapy, visualization, optimal positioning, and breathing patterns, doulas are supportive during both medicated and unmedicated births. Doulas do not replace a birth partner but rather assist you in having the birth experience you desire.

9th Avenue Doulas are trained in Hypnobirthing and Spinning Babies techniques. All 9th Avenue Doulas provide support during Cesarean births in the operating room at Rose Medical Center.

Birth Support from Experienced, Compassionate Doulas

What to Expect

  1. After matching with your 9th Avenue Doula, together you will schedule your virtual meeting to get to know each other, talk through your birth preferences and answer questions. You will also have a chance to ask your doula questions.

  2. The day you go into labor, you will be in contact with your doula by phone and text. It is helpful to communicate early and often if you suspect that labor has begun or if your water breaks.

  3. When you are ready to have your doula join you at Rose, you will call (not text) your doula. She will arrive at the hospital within 75 minutes to provide support.

Please note that this program does not provide postpartum services.

Backup system: If your primary doula is unable to attend your birth due to illness or because she is with another client, another 9th Avenue Doula will be available to support you. Your primary doula may be able to take over support if/when she becomes available, or the backup doula may continue throughout your birth experience.

Doula Fee

$850 This fee includes one 45-60 minute virtual prenatal meeting and up to 10 hours of continuous in-person support from your 9th Avenue Doula during labor, delivery and immediate recovery. It is up to you to decide when your doula's presence will be the most beneficial to you.

If support is needed beyond the 10 hours, $75 per hour is due within two weeks after delivery.

An initial $65 registration fee is required to secure a place on a doula’s calendar. Then your doula will send you an invoice for the remaining $785 in advance of your prenatal meeting.

Once you have signed on, the $850 fee is nonrefundable.

Choosing Your Doula

To get started, review the individual doulas’ bios and videos below. Additionally, we offer a complimentary monthly webinar where you can get to know the doulas virtually. The webinar is not required to sign up for the program. Because our doulas are on call 24/7, we do not provide individual interviews.

With doulas taking some time off to be with their families, we have limited availability around Thanksgiving and December holidays, Spring Break and summer. Please email info@9thavenuedoulas.com directly to inquire if your due date falls into that limited availability window.

Our program can fill up quickly. Don’t delay sending the below email.

The 9th Avenue Doulas Team

  • Leslie Blue

I am a seasoned registered nurse with over 35 years of experience. My first love in nursing was labor /delivery /postpartum and women’s specialties. Now as a birth doula, I am looking forward to using my skills to provide in-person support in the form of comfort measures, relaxation techniques and breathing patterns to enhance the birthing experience for families.

  • Krystal Bruchs

As a doula I believe that all birthing families deserve to feel supported, informed and confident in making decisions during their birthing time. I enjoy learning about my client's birthing visions, teaching comfort measures to partners, suggesting labor positions, and different tips/tricks through pregnancy and your birthing journey. I take pride in teaching my clients how to advocate for themselves with their care providers in order to establish trust and healthy communication.

  • Bethany Dickson

It is my goal as your doula to empower you with knowledge and a sense that you are supported in your goals and that you are being seen and heard and understood. I use hands-on techniques and evidence-based information and strive to bring a sense of focus, assuredness and peace to the labor room.

  • Emily Griego

As a doula, I strive to empower my clients to advocate for the births that THEY want! This is their story, and they are the authors. I have supported over 75 births in a variety of settings and situations, including multiples (twins and up), VBACs, and belly births. In the birth space, I like to use the BRAIN acronym (benefits, risks, alternatives, intuition, nothing) to help clients navigate through decision making in the birth space. This brings a sense of calmness and allows clients to have meaningful discussions concerning their care with the medical staff.

  • Shantell Herbert

I am a well-versed doula with experience in pregnancy, labor and delivery. I have experience providing emotional, educational and physical support, while bringing a calm presence, encouragement, and a safe environment for mom, baby and family.

  • Becca Lai

My love for the birth experience began with my own infertility journey and now that love extends to each client I have the chance to work with. My experience with the challenges that are unique to pregnancy and birth has helped me to discover my calling, helping mothers and families transition into their new lives together. I seamlessly move between quiet, calm and focused to humor and joy.

  • Puja Mehta

The miracle of birth is a joyful and incredible journey, and I am honored to serve as a multilingual doula of color in Colorado. I work with you, your care team, and any support partner(s) you have to provide guidance and empowerment. My goal as a doula is that you feel supported and safe in your labor and birth environment, so you can listen to your body in a judgement-free zone and trust your instincts.

  • Rebecca Peterson

As your birth doula, I trust you and your innate wisdom to listen to your body, your heart and your own inner wisdom as you work toward meeting your baby. In birth, I provide non-judgmental birth support and show up without personal agenda or ego to your birth. I listen to your hopes and desires and support your choices and am there to help you to decide what is best for you and your family.

  • Jessica Potter

Birth is a blessed event. As a doula, I strive to support birthing parents to have a positive birth experience that encompasses the physical, emotional, and informational aspects of this sacred time so they can feel empowered to make decisions that best fit them and their specific situation. I integrate my support role with the rest of the care team, maintaining a high standard of professionalism and mutual respect to promote a positive birth environment.

  • Lindsay Scott

My goal is to empower you during your birth to give you a great start into parenthood. Whatever your birth plan looks like, I am here to support you through your birthing process. This is your birth and your story - no one else's.

  • Lena Winkler

As a birth doula, it doesn’t matter to me how you want to have your baby — I support all births (planned cesarean, induction, medicated, unmedicated and everything in between)! I care about making sure you and your partner or family have all the tools possible to make informed decisions about how your baby is born. Evidence-based information is a passion of mine and I have found throughout the years that using evidence-based science helps eliminate any personal or unconscious biases.

  • Susan Geissler (back-up support only)

I’m delighted to provide back-up doula service for the 9th Avenue Doula Team. I was fully active as a Rose Doula for 20 years while I also served the non profit community in various leadership positions. Now I support whoever is in need of brief fill-in or perhaps full labor support.

  • Sarah Hartmann (back-up support only)

I am committed to connecting with my clients to form an intimate and trusting relationship. I want to encourage an empowering birth for you and your family!  My goal is to cherish your inner child, along with the new child being born. Together, we can create a positive experience, one that you will love talking about for decades!

  • Emily Logan (back-up support only)

It is my distinct privilege to witness your strengths, support your needs, and experience the love that surrounds these special birth moments. Mindfulness, empathy, and empowerment are the core values I bring to the birth space, guiding you as a trauma-informed, judgement-free, grounding presence. I love the spontaneity, light, and radiating energy that comes from birth and I hope to share this welcoming space with you.

  • Michael Slis (back-up support only)

As a doula, my goal is to help families find their strength, and to support them during this beautiful phase of life. I started my journey by casually supporting friends and family members who were welcoming a new baby and came to me for advice. I realized not only how much my support meant to them, but how much it meant to me.

Barbara Moore, 9th Avenue Doulas Coordinator

While I have worked at Rose Medical Center since 1982, I have enjoyed teaching childbirth and breastfeeding classes as well as supporting families as a birth doula. Over the years, I have had the pleasure to connect with women, couples and families as they prepared for their new babies. Being a doula allowed me to nurture, guide, support and share in the joy of birth over and over again.

I look forward to helping connect you with a 9th Avenue Doula who will play a major role in your birth experience, helping to make it positive, manageable and memorable. We all look forward to being part of your birth journey at Rose, still Colorado’s best place to deliver your baby!

9th Avenue Doulas respect and serve all clients regardless of age, race, color, religion, marital status, sex, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, disability or medical condition and source of payment.

As a mutual partnership, we ask that our clients respect and follow these guidelines when working with a 9th Avenue Doula.
